About this item

Bare 27mm piezo disk — use it as a buzzer or as a knock/vibration sensor in Arduino and DIY electronics projects.

About this item

This is a bare 27mm piezoelectric disk — a piezoelectric transducer sensor that you can use as a buzzer or as a vibration/knock sensor in Arduino and DIY electronics projects.

Specifications

  • Type: piezoelectric disk / transducer
  • Diameter: 27mm (approx.)
  • Thickness: 0.5mm (approx.)
  • Material: brass + ceramic
  • Lightweight and compact

Features

  • High quality piezoelectric disk
  • Can be used as a buzzer or a sensor
  • Wide range of applications
  • Easy to use — suitable for electronics and DIY projects

How to use with Arduino

As a buzzer: connect the brass plate and ceramic side to an Arduino digital pin and use the tone() function to play sounds. For a louder output, drive it through a transistor.

As a sensor: connect it to an analog pin and read it to detect knocks and vibrations.

Example code (tone):

void setup() {
  pinMode(8, OUTPUT);
}

void loop() {
  tone(8, 1000);  // play a 1kHz tone on pin 8
  delay(500);
  noTone(8);      // stop the tone
  delay(500);
}

Bare element vs active buzzer — please read

This is the bare piezo element: it needs a driving circuit or code (such as Arduino tone()) to make sound. It is different from our Active Piezo Buzzer 3V-12V for Arduino, which has a built-in circuit and sounds with plain DC. If you want sound with simple DC voltage, choose the active buzzer; for tones, melodies and sensing, this bare disk is the right part.

Applications

  • Buzzer / alarm
  • Vibration sensor
  • DIY electronics projects
  • Educational projects
  • Audio generation

Works great with our Arduino Uno R3 SMD Board Kit.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an active or a passive buzzer?
This is a passive, bare piezo element. It will not sound on its own — it needs a driving signal from a circuit or code.

How do I connect it to Arduino?
Connect the brass plate and the ceramic side to a digital pin and use tone() to play sounds. For louder output, drive it through a transistor. For sensing, read it on an analog pin.

Can it be used as a sensor?
Yes. The disk produces a small voltage when it vibrates, so you can use it as a knock or vibration sensor on an analog pin.

What is the diameter?
About 27mm.

Is it waterproof?
No. This is a plain electronics part — keep it dry.

Can I hear it without a circuit?
No. The bare disk needs a driving signal (for example Arduino tone()) to make sound.
